Taconazo Presents:
NACOTHEQUE
with SF DJ EKG
9-2
$8
WHAT DOES THE NAME NACOTHEQUE MEAN?
[NAKO-TEK] Nacotheque – The name Nacotheque was made up of the words
“Naco” (often used in Mexican Spanish to describe bad-mannered people.
Kinda equivalent to the American “White Trash”) and “Discotheque”. The
name has a meaning all in it’s own – representing music not only from
Mexico, but Spanish-sung music from around the globe and sharing it
with an eclectic selection of music fans.
THE NACOTHEQUE MISSION :
There are tons of new, old, rare, and yet to be discovered artists
that beat the stereotypes of Spanish-sung music. The more people that
know about it the better the public can be educated in what is
considered the alternative to Latin music.
WHAT IS NACOTHEQUE? A PARTY, A BRAND, A TASTEMAKER.
Nacotheque is a dance party in NYC that highlights new and old,
popular and obscure music from all over Latin America and Spain of
rock n’ roll, new wave, indie rock, baile-funk, nouveau-eighties,
electropop, disco, cumbia, punk, and some hip-hop.
Nominiated by PAPER magazine as the “Best New Party of 2007″ and dubbed as
“NYC’s hottest indie rock party en español” by URB magazine,
Nacotheque has become one of the most unique events in New York City’s
underground scene.
In addition to being a party, Nacotheque has become a recognized brand
to Spanish-sung Latin alternative music that allows us the privilege
to introduce new artists to a generation of music and pop culture
hungry people all over the world.

Last month’s Africa Rising event was a resounding success and featured on San Francisco Examiner, San Francisco Bay Guardian and on TV and Radio. Please join us Saturday, March 28th for another exciting night. Bring your dancing shoes!
ABOUT AFRICA RISING:
Africa’s rich cultural heritage has produced some of the most flavorful food, rhythmic music, and vibrant art in existence. The continent’s influence on other cultures has been profound; there are very few corners of the world which have not been touched in some way by Africa.
If you’ve dreamed about Africa but haven’t yet visited the motherland, you are invited to sample a spectrum of the best the Diaspora has to offer at “Africa Rising,” a new event combining music, art, and fashion – all with an African theme.
Conceived by Jeremiah Kpoh, President of Maisha Productions, Africa Rising offers music, and art enthusiasts more than just a taste of Africa, presenting a unique cultural experience featuring Nigeria and LA’s hottest Afrobeat DJ Nnambi and Afrodicia Soundsytem, Maneesh the Twister (Surya Dub, Dub Mission, Dhamaal) plus DJs Jeremiah (Liberia) spinning Afrobeat, Soukous, and other Diasporan musical goodies. In addition, Fashion designer Tyese Cooper will preview her trunk show collection which will also be available for sale (http://tinyurl.com/df5gqf). Tickets are only $10.
“There are only a few places in the Bay Area where you can really experience the African Diaspora,” Kpoh explains. “I wanted to create an event which would be not just a dance party, but a full-on experience celebrating the diverse culture of the Motherland,” he adds. Being conscious of these difficult economic times, he says, “I wanted to keep it affordable. The goal is to make the culture of the African Diaspora accessible to people living in the Bay Area.”
