A Night of Bass Culture

Friday June 17th, 2009 @ Project One Gallery

Project One Gallery announces ONE, a brand new series of events bringing
together the SF Bass community. The kickoff event features a night of
dubstep, glitch hop, dread bass, dancehall and breaks and brings together
Bay Area heavyweights Lud Dub (Cosmic Vibe, Bass Response), Rastatronics
(Subwize), Dulce Vita (Womper Womb, opulent Temple) and Maneesh the Twister
(Surya Dub, Dub Mission). Also showing at the Gallery is the “Life Liberty &
the Pursuit of Happiness,” solo exhibition by bay area graffiti artist and
painter Duser.

Maneesh the Twister (Surya Dub, Dub Mission)
Maneesh is the founder of Surya Dub and was also co-founder of the highly
acclaimed Dhamaal Artist Collective. His productions appear on Dhamaal
Soundsystem, Kush Arora’s From Brooklyn to SF, XBOX 360, and SONY BMG
India’s Shamur compilation. He was voted Best Club DJ 2007 SF Bay Guardian
and both Surya Dub and Dhamaal have won several Best of the Bay and Best
Club Night accolades. Maneesh has quite varied tastes and spins dub reggae,
dubstep, glitch, breakbeat, drum’n'bass, dancehall, global beats, and
anything with BASS. Maneesh has toured all over the states, India and the UK
and has shared the stage with Lee “Scratch” Perry, Adrian Sherwood (On-U
sound), Francois K, Thievery Corporation, Kode 9, Smith & Mighty, Karsh
Kale, Nickodemus, Z-Trip, Solomonic Sound (Rob Paine), Cheb I Sabbah, Dan
the Automator, Mark & the legendary Jamaican producer, Scientist.

Lud Dub (Bass Response, Cosmic Vibe, Big Up)
Lud is a SF-based DJ, writer, and entrepreneur with 15+ years of experience
in the music biz. Known for his versatility in playing a wide range of bass
heavy genres ranging from Dancehall to Dubstep, Breakbeat to Drum ‘n’ Bass;
he’s always pushing the musical boundaries. In addition to laying the
foundation for his new record label, Bass Response Recordings, Lud Dub is
actively involved with Big Up Magazine showcasing underground music, art,
and street culture. For more info check www.myspace.com/luddub

Rastatronics (Subwize)
Santa Cruz based DJ, promoter, and producer Rastatronics has been on the
decks since 1998 spinning an eclectic mix of underground electronic music
and reggae influenced tracks, that gives his sets an exciting and singular
sound. He has become focused on pushing the dubstep style as a founding
member of the Subwize DJ collective and through his partnership with Bay
Area event promoters Raindance. Rastatronics has been on the same bill with
acts such as Diplo, Rusko, Skream, Benga, Distance, DZ, MRK1, Djunya, Eskmo,
Matty G, and STS9. He has recently begun producing and remixing, with his
collaboration with Canadian producer DZ on a remix of Pink Floyd’s seminal
“Comfortably Numb” receiving international attention.

Dulce Vita (Opulent Temple, Womper Womb)
Enter Dulce Vita (pronounced dol-see/vee-tah), a refreshing addition to the
full spectrum of DJ talent emerging from San Francisco. DV is known to
provide an energetically urban soundscape of breakbeat – infused with
audible hints of intelligent glitch, dubstep womp, big beat, chunky electro,
tech funk, and indie dance – with her signature brand of aggressive intent
when inside the mix. In recent past, Dulce was named WINNER of SF Weekly:
City of Spin 2009 (DJ Competition) and her performance at Burning Man earned
a prestigious mention in international publication DJ Mag – within the 2008
issue featuring Top 100. In 2006, she was proud to be selected as the first
female to be affiliated with “Opulent Temple” (the infamous mainstage sound
camp at Burning Man featuring global talent on 150,000 watts -
www.opulenttemple.org). Her brand new solo event production company is
dubbed with the apt alias: DVANT GARDE. She hosts a monthly event every
first Saturday – The Freak Show @ Blowfish Sushi. In addition, DV is the
creator of the summer seasonal, Womper Womb @ Project One, every 2nd Thursday. http://www.myspace.com/dulcevita.
