Wed 10/8/09 : New art opening : Music Inspired Art with Gavin Hardkiss

We are proud to announce the release of the new Hawke album +++, written and produced by Gavin Hardkiss.

As an alternative to having songs remixed, Gavin asked visual artists to create paintings, sculptures, videos and mixed media inspired by the album and join him to create an art event to celebrate the album’s release.

Fifteen artists from the Bay Area and beyond will have work featured at the event. Artists include Felipe Merida, Fernando Apodaca, John Stewart, Handiedan, Duser, Ursula X. Young, Justin Young, Pure Evil, Owen Maigret, Robert Ogden, Evan Venegas, Trina Merry, Lucian Moon, Breejock, Joe B and Dmitri SFC.

There will also be several nights of DJ entertainment featuring Gavin Hardkiss and cohorts, with fashion, food, photoboof and general tomfoolery.

Wednesday June 10th: COME AS YOU ARE OPENING RECEPTION

Project One Gallery presents “Come As You Are”, a collective exhibition curated by Brooke Waterhouse and Rachel Lena Esterline. The selection of pieces for this exhibition manifests a wide range of interpretations in the viewer.  Our intention was to put together a show that allowed for an open dialogue between the works and their audience.  In a world where so many of us are sleep walking through the daily barrage of advertisements and news scares, “Come As You Are” prompts you to snap out of it, to be present so you can create a conversation with the art. In all of its honesty and bluntness, the exhibition will allow you to look inside yourself for a meaning, a connotation, an explanation. We’ve stripped away the pretensions of a so-called “culture” and left you to your own responses.  But whether the reaction is settling or not, whether it is pleasant or not, we only ask that you come as you are.
